What Would Jesus Say Session 19: Where Your Treasure Is There Will Be Your Heart

Matthew 6:21 — “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

 

[Read Matthew 6:19-24]

  1. In Matthew 6:19, Jesus continues with His instructions about our motives for serving God and what we possess. What does it mean to lay up treasures in Heaven? Why are we commanded not to lay up treasures on this earth? What does that mean?
  2. What three things will happen to our temporary and earthly things?
  3. Jesus has a lot to say about money. What does Jesus say about money in Chapter 6:19-24?
  4. Why do we treasure money so much? Is money worth putting our trust in? What does Jesus say about this? 
  5. Is Jesus saying we should not have wealth and possessions? What is Jesus teaching us here?
  6. Verse 21 tells us that our treasure reveals what is in our hearts. What does this mean? What is this teaching you? 
  7. How are the things that we value most like a microscope to our heart?
  8. Verse 22 says the eye is a lamp to the soul. What does this mean? When we allow bad things to enter, what happens? When we allow good things to enter, what happens?
  9. In verse 24, Jesus teaches us that no one can serve two masters. Why? What happens? How can we apply this to our lives today?
