Matthew 5:5 — “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
Read Matthew 5:1-4
- The term ‘meek’ literally means ‘mild’ or ‘gentle’. How does this shape the way you might understand its meaning?
- What examples would you give if you were to describe meekness as a character trait?
- How did Jesus characterize himself in Matthew 11:29? What did he say?
- Jesus was the best example of meekness. What do we learn about meekness from Jesus in John 18:28-40? How did Jesus handle his trial? How did he handle his suffering and crucifixion? What does this show us about true meekness?
- In Luke 20:19-26, Jesus is confronted by the religious leaders about a healing of a man born blind. How does Jesus show us true meekness amidst the opposition he faced from the religious leaders?
