[Read 2 Peter 3]

  1. How does the Apostle Peter encourage the early church as he closes his second letter?
  2. In verse 14, we are reminded to wait diligently for Christ’s coming. What does ‘be found in Him without spot or blemish’ mean? What does Peter say about this in verse 11?
  3. In verse 15, we are instructed to count the patience of the Lord as salvation. How is God’s grace and mercy seen in his waiting patiently for us?
  4. In verse 16, Peter references Paul’s writings. What does this tell us about the Apostles’ understanding of their writings? What does Peter call Paul’s writings? Peter also acknowledges the depth of Paul’s writings. What does he say about Paul’s doctrine? Because the Scriptures can be challenging to understand, what are we called to do in this text?
  5. In verse 17, Peter warns the early church to ‘take care not to be carried away with the error of lawless people. How do we lose our stability according to 2 Peter 3:17?
  6. In verse 18, we are encouraged to ‘grow in the grace and knowledge’ of Christ. What does this mean? Define grace. Define knowledge. What does it look like to grow in grace as we live out the Christian life, follow Jesus, and share the message of the Gospel?
  7. What evidence of transformation do we see in Peter’s life? [Hint: John 21:15-25]
  8. How might we share the grace of Christ today with a friend, family member, or neighbor?
