Isaiah 40:31 — “But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

- How would you describe and summarize the first 39 chapters of Isaiah? How does this change in chapter 40? How are we to understand God in His righteous anger and holy wrath versus His steadfast love and peace? Why?
- Isaiah prophesied God’s judgment upon Israel through the Assyrian exile, but he also prophesied God’s mercy and grace. What happened to Israel historically during this period?
- The context for Israel’s ‘waiting upon the Lord’ was a long and challenging season. How does this shape how we apply Isaiah 40:31 to our lives?
