Planted Session 1: Why We Fail to Grow
Psalm 1:3: “He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”

- What does it mean to be blessed? According to Psalm 1, who can live the blessed life? Why?
- The Psalm begins by teaching us how the righteous do not live. What progression do you see in verse 1? What kind of picture are we given here? [Hint: From walking, to standing, to sitting]
- How does the righteous person live according to verse 2? What does it mean to ‘delight in the law’ of the LORD? What does ‘meditate on the Word day and night’ mean?
- If you struggle to spend quality time in the Word, how might your delight and hunger for the Word grow? How does a relationship grow?
- If you struggle to apply God’s Word to your life, walking in obedience to the Word, what might kick-start a change in your life? What does Psalm 1 say about this?
- What does it mean to prosper, according to Psalm 1? When the Bible references prosperity, what does that look like for the believer in Christ? What does it not mean?
- According to verses 4-5, what are the results of following after wickedness? How does a believer in Christ live?
- Clearly, the places we live and the people we spend time with influence the way we act and think. What areas of influence in your life may be negatively affecting you? What might you change? Why?
- What might you apply to your life from Psalm 1? What could you share about this text with a friend, family member, or neighbor?
