History Session 11: Isaac and Rebekah
Genesis 24:27: “As for me, the Lord has led me in the way to the house of my master’s kinsmen.”

- Do you believe that everything happens for a reason? Why? Do you believe in coincidence? What does coincidence mean? [Read: Luke 12:7; Matthew 10:29; Acts 1:26; Isaiah 46:9-11; Proverbs 16:33; 19:21; John 10:3-5]
- Our story begins with Abraham instructing his servant to go and find a wife for Isaac. Why did Abraham instruct his servant to go to the city of Nahor? Why doesn’t Abraham want Isaac to take a wife from the land of Canaan? Why does he want Isaac to marry someone from his homeland?
- Upon reaching Mesopotamia, what does the servant do? Where does he stop? Who does he meet immediately after praying to the Lord for His guidance?
- After meeting Rebekah, what does Abraham’s servant learn about her character? What does he give her for her hospitality? Why?
- After meeting Rebekah, Abraham’s servant praises the Lord. What does he pray? (v.26-27) What do we learn about Abraham’s servant here?
- What might we learn from Abraham’s servant about following God’s leading? What does he mean when he says, “The Lord has led me in the way”? (V.27)
- How do we know when God is guiding our steps in life? How does this story apply to our lives?
- What happens next in our story as Rebekah goes and shares with her family what has happened at the well? What does Abraham’s servant share with the family? (v.34-39)
- What was Abraham’s servant’s perspective on God’s will and guidance in his life? What was his perspective on coincidence?
