Never Stop Growing Session 2: Never Stop Growing in Knowledge

2 Peter 1:5 (ESV) — For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge

[Read 2 Peter 1:3-9]

  1. Highlight the word “knowledge/know,” “forgotten,” and “remind/reminder/recall.” In 2 Peter 1:1–14. What is knowledge and what kind of knowledge does Peter referr to in these verses? What might be specific examples of the content which Peter assumes the readers know and which He intends to remind them?
  2. What are negative results from decisively forgetting this knowledge? (See 2 Peter 1:9, 2:9–22) What are benefits of growing in this knowledge? (See 2 Peter 1:2, 8–11, 3:17–18)
  3. Why is knowing right content insufficient? What is the importance of knowledge moving from the head (content) to the heart (belief and action)?
  4. How can you better grow in your knowledge of Jesus so that you know Him better than you did yesterday?
  5. What are examples of things the Bible reveals, which you know, yet struggle to believe and act upon? How do your actions reveal what your heart believes which may contradict what you know to be true in your head? For example, your identity in Christ, the deceitfulness of wealth, the Lord’s protection, the Lord’s provision and peace, etc…
  6. What are some “precious and very great promises” that help you apply your knowledge of God to your practical situations?
  7. Paul describes his own journey of taking “hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me” in Philippians 3:12 (NIV). Describe the process you go through when you need to take hold of God’s promises by faith. How do you find the needed promises? What do you do after you find them?
  8. Identify some aspects of knowledge of God that need to move from your minds (content) to your hearts (belief and action) and match them with a related promise or principle from Scripture. Spend some time praying, asking God to increase your faith in the promises and knowledge He has revealed to you.
