The Church Is… Session 2: The Church Is One Body

 

[Romans 12:1-8]

  1. What appeal does the Apostle Paul make to the church at Rome in verse 1? What does this mean for the church today?
  2. What instruction does Paul give the congregation in verse 3? What does it mean to think about yourself with sober judgment? In what ways do we think of ourselves more highly than we ought to?
  3. What does it mean to think of yourself according to the measure of faith assigned?
  4. What does Paul mean when he says, “Though many, we are all members of One Body”? What does this mean for the church? What does it mean for Emmaus? 
  5. List the gifts of the Spirit that the Apostle Paul references in verses 6-8. What does he say about each of these gifts? 
  6. What do you suppose the issue was in the church at Rome? Why was Paul addressing this issue? How might we fall into these same issues today?
  7. Why might we struggle to use the gifts we have been given?
  8. Do you believe churches here and around the world would be more effective if we were operating in our own gifting? Why?
