[Romans 12:1-8]

  1. What appeal does the Apostle Paul make to the church at Rome? What does this mean for the church today?
  2. What does he mean by the mercies of God? What mercies? [Hint: What do the first 11 chapters say about God’s mercy in Christ towards us? Read: Romans 3:22-24; 5:1-5;
    6:4; 8:1]
  3. Do you ever stop and ponder God’s mercy towards you? Why do we need God’s mercy and grace? Why does it matter?
  4. What does it mean to present your bodies as a living sacrifice? What is a sacrifice? An Old Testament sacrifice took the life of an animal. So what does Paul mean by a living sacrifice? How does this relate to what Jesus did for us?
  5. How are our lives to become a living sacrifice? What does verse 2 tell us about becoming a living sacrifice?
  6. What does it mean to conform to the world? How are we shaped by cultural patterns?
    What are the most obvious worldly, cultural patterns we observe in our world today?
  7. How are we transformed by the renewal of our minds? How does the Word of God transform our minds? How does the work of the Holy Spirit transform our minds?
  8. How does Romans 12:1-2 help shape our perception of what the Church is?
