What Would Jesus Say Session 18: Deliver Us From Evil

 

Matthew 6:13 — “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

  1. Along with our daily need for forgiveness, we also have a daily need for protection and guidance against temptation. What is temptation? What is the difference between temptation and sin? Why is this important to understand?
  2. What does Jesus mean when He teaches us to pray, “God, lead us not into temptation”? Does God lead us into temptation? What does James 1:13 tell us about temptation? [Hint: The prayer could be rendered, “Don’t let us succumb to temptation.” How does this help us understand what Jesus is saying here?
  3. How was Jesus tempted in the wilderness? What does Matthew 4:1-11 tell us? What is the first temptation? What is the second temptation? What is the third temptation?
