What Would Jesus Say Session 16: Daily Bread
Matthew 6:11 — “Give us this day our daily bread.”
[Read Matthew 6:9-13]
- What is the difference between needs and wants? What do you need for today? When it comes to our immediate needs, notice that Jesus teaches us to pray for today, not for tomorrow. Why is this significant?
- What did Jesus mean when He taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread”? What is “daily bread”? Does this mean all our provisions?
- Why does God want us to bring our needs before Him? Is it a comfort to know that he desires for us to bring Him our needs? How?
- 4. Do you remember the story of God providing manna for Israel, recorded in Exodus 16? Read the chapter and share observations about God’s provision. What happened? How did God provide? What was Israel’s response?
- Jeremiah 17:7-8 speaks of our need to trust God, who always provides. What role do dependency and trust play in our prayer life? How does dependency shape your prayer life? How do you struggle with dependency and trust?
- According to Jeremiah 17:7-8, what role does trust play for the believer in Christ? What illustration are we given in these verses? How can you apply this to your life?
- Why do we worry and fear, even knowing God is fully trustworthy and in control?
- How might this study help you grow in your understanding of prayer and our need to bring requests before God?
