Matthew 5:8 — “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
Read Matthew 5:1-8
- The phrase ‘pure in heart’ means ‘clean within,’ having pure motives and living blameless lives, and it also implies an undivided heart towards God. What does Psalm 24:4-5 tell us? What does this mean?
- How often are our motives pure? Would you agree that even our best efforts could be motivated by selfish motives? Can you give some examples?
- What does Matthew 15:19-20 say about the heart of mankind? What does this mean for us?
- If our hearts are impure, then what is the solution for our hearts?
- What does Psalm 51:10 tell us? What does it mean that God would create in us a clean heart? What does it mean that God would renew a steadfast spirit with us?
- What does Psalm 86:11 say? What does it mean that God would unite our hearts to fear His name? How might you apply that to your life?
- What does Proverbs 4:23 say? How might this apply to the Beatitude we are studying?
- Each Beatitude begins with ‘Blessed’ and ends with a conclusion. What does Jesus mean when He says ‘they shall see God’? How might we apply this to our lives?
