What Would Jesus Say Session 6: Blessed Are The Pure In Heart

Matthew 5:8 — “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” 

 

Read Matthew 5:1-8

  1. The phrase ‘pure in heart’ means ‘clean within,’ having pure motives and living blameless lives, and it also implies an undivided heart towards God. What does Psalm 24:4-5 tell us? What does this mean?
  2. How often are our motives pure? Would you agree that even our best efforts could be motivated by selfish motives? Can you give some examples?
  3. What does Matthew 15:19-20 say about the heart of mankind? What does this mean for us?
  4. If our hearts are impure, then what is the solution for our hearts?
  5. What does Psalm 51:10 tell us? What does it mean that God would create in us a clean heart? What does it mean that God would renew a steadfast spirit with us?
  6. What does Psalm 86:11 say? What does it mean that God would unite our hearts to fear His name? How might you apply that to your life?
  7. What does Proverbs 4:23 say? How might this apply to the Beatitude we are studying?
  8. Each Beatitude begins with ‘Blessed’ and ends with a conclusion. What does Jesus mean when He says ‘they shall see God’? How might we apply this to our lives?
