[Read Isaiah 42:1-9]

  1. What are you looking forward to in 2026? How do we measure a good year versus a bad year?
  2. Often we define success or failure based on things that we have control over. What would it look like if we defined success and failure based on what the Lord has done or how He blesses us?
  3. Isaiah 42 is the first of four servant songs. How does this scripture point to Jesus?
  4. In Isaiah 42:1 it says, “Behold my servant… my chosen, in whom my soul delights, I have put my Spirit upon Him.” What type of authority or power goes along with that type of anointing or power?
  5. Isaiah 42 uses the term justice several times. How does Jesus bring about justice in our individual lives? In our society? At the final judgement?
  6. How does verse 3 encourage us when we are broken, weary, or “faintly burning”?
  7. How does His perseverance described in verse 4 bring encouragement?
  8. Verse 5 describes the greatness of God’s creation. How do you align His power over creation with the fact that He serves us, His creation?
  9. Verse 6 describes both His covenant which was for the people of God as well as “a light to the nations”. Where do we fit in with that covenant? What does this mean for us as people of the nations?
  10. Verse 7 describes the freedom that the Lord gives to those who are blind, in prison, and in dungeons. When do those terms describe us?
  11. Verse 8 describes the Lord as the only God. When do we allow Him to be in charge of our own lives? When do we make other things gods in our lives?
