- How do you celebrate Easter? What type of preparations are required for that celebration?
- As Jesus rides into Jerusalem, the crowd is shouting Hosanna which means, “save us”. What did they want Him to save them from? What was their preparation in regards to?
- The Jewish Passover happened during the week between Palm Sunday and Easter. The first step in preparation was selecting a lamb which happened on Palm Sunday, which is also called lamb selection Sunday. How does the preparation for Passover relate to Jesus? See John 1:29
- As we have looked at this History sermon series, we can see God’s preparation for Jesus and His arrival in Jerusalem. Review how we have seen that preparation over these past weeks. (Creation, Fall of Man, Cain and Abel, Tower of Babel, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph)
- Verse 22:14 says, “when the hour came”, which refers to the eating of the Passover, but it also refers to the fulfillment of history that culminates in Jesus. What prophecies are fulfilled in Jesus or what preparations did God bring together at this time? See Genesis 22:11-14; Exodus 12:21-27; Isaiah 53:7-9 etc
- In verse 22:15 Jesus says, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” Review what is Jesus going to suffer in the next hours, be specific. Why is He suffering all those things? Be specific and personal.
- Verses 22:16 and 18 refer to the “fulfillment in the kingdom of God” and “until the kingdom of God comes.” The kingdom of God has both a narrow and a broad definition. What is that kingdom as described in Revelation 5:6-12; 19:9-10?
- What is the kingdom of God from the perspective of life on earth or even our lives? See Matthew 12:28; Luke 10:8-11; Colossians 1:13-14
- Discuss what Jesus was preparing as He rode into Jerusalem. What has God been preparing you for and what has he been preparing for you?
